about

Erica Grant is a well-known community advocate in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Her critical insight, and her ability to stand up and give voice to the residents in the neighbourhood, has helped to shed light on the challenges others are facing and resilience of her neighbourhood. Her music is a way to push back against the negative stereotypes people often have about the neighbourhood and a spiritual catharsis.

Go Rest High On That Mountain is dedicated to Erica’s son Duncan, who died this spring. Erica can be heard playing a drum Duncan had made for her on the track. On the track she is accompanied by her partner Grant Houle on acoustic guitar. Grant also lost his son in early 2020.

“Music allows you go over the hurdle of all the negative stuff you’re feeling. It’s a way of letting my emotions out. There actually is a lot of talent, and a lot of caring people, down here”

-Erica Grant

lyrics

I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain.
You weren't afraid to face the devil,
You were no stranger to the rain.

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing.

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.
