about
On a summer day in the early 2000s, two friends, day drinking in the living room of their East Van apartment, came up with the concept for a comedic rap group. While freestyle rapping on a handheld tape recording device, they envisioned what would become a band named Hotbox. They decided that each band member should go by a different persona. Can Pipe would be the self-proclaimed sexy guy of the group. Dimebag, always wearing a balaclava, gave the group its much-needed street cred. MC Gro Op's booming vocals and left-leaning political beliefs added a hardcore element to the group. And then there was DJ Exhale, his face always covered in bandages, whose thumping beats rounded out what would become the group signature sound referred to as weed-rap. Over the years, although band members would come and go, the band concept always remained the same: comedic raps over hardcore beats. In later years badass MC Papa No Bueno and guitarist Overdose joined the group forming what is known today as East Van Hotbox.
lyrics
This next song is dedicated to every crooked cop,
and every sky train flunky who ever got in my way.
Got the shoes, the booze, the guns, the weed, the need
to make a motherfucker bleed like milk.
Rolling off the spot the bitch got shot
Shit went down, I kid you not
Didn’t want to kill her but I knew I had to hurt her.
It’s a mutherfucking drug waaaaaaarrrrr
It’s a mutherfucking…
Nothing's been the same since war’s being declared
Chicken-shit cops turning yellow running scared.
Everybody’s driving the ring road impaired.
You better watch your ass ‘cause no one's getting spared.
There’s violence at the rock shop, down at the cop shop
The lights are gone red but it ain't ever gonna stop.
Because the rocks are on the street, they're rolling through Whalley
Leaving home alone would be a foolish man’s folly.
Unless you're dealing, buying, smokin’, shootin’ smack or only cokin’
You better stay at home unless your nose gets broken.
Fire up the pipe but you better bring a nine
‘Cause being unprotected is the only fucking crime…
In Whalley.
Fuck the peace, fuck the peace.
Fuck ‘em! It’s a mutherfucking…
Got the shoes, the booze, the guns, the weed, the need
To make a motherfucker bleed like milk.
Rolling off the spot the bitch got shot
Shit went down, I kid you not
Didn’t want to kill her but I new I had to hurt her.
The battlefield is bloody and the concrete’s turning red
‘Cause another casualty got shot in the crackhead.
The lines are being drawn ‘round the body on the lawn
When the shit goes down what side you gonna be on?
White trash jock, you better buy a glock
‘Cause the crackhead militia are the new police on your block.
They're always getting stronger, their reach is getting longer
You can always get a tenner from the local crack monger.
The basie crack rock is the purest form of blood lust
They’re fighting for the right to deal the shit in front of Stardust.
The rockers are rollin’, the cadaver’s gettin’ stolen
Yo the money's in his hand the crack cocaine is in his colon.
The skrilla, the brilla and the pipe made of glass
Yo the steroid gorilla’s going to grill your fuckin’ ass.
If you step out of line or you look the wrong way
‘Cause in the crack war for Whalley everybody's got to pay B.
Sorry…

The record so nice, I bought it twice. Just sent one as a gift to a friend.
This record is stunning. Poignant and powerful, sometimes heartbreaking. The artwork is gorgeous too. firecat666
