about
Mike was fortunate to grow up in a family where music was a natural part of the joy of being alive, whether it was a way to pass the time on long road trips or as a way to celebrate Christmas holidays together. With parents and siblings who introduced him to all kinds of different music and taught him how to sing in harmony and play guitar, music became his spiritual touchstone for facing life’s challenges.
Mike was fortunate enough to have many great friends who shared his love of music, especially after he arrived in Vancouver’s DTES. In 1995, he discovered Carnegie Community Centre which became his home base for many years. Mike has created many songs over the years which expressed the love he discovered inside himself when he was blessed with the miracles that were his two daughters.
lyrics
So glad you’re alive.
So good that you’re here.
May you live long and well,
In freedom from fear.
May your happy heart be dancing down a rainbow,
Or swinging on a star.
As in time,
You become who you are.
So glad you were born.
So good that you came.
Sweet child of the darkness,
Bright child of the flame.
May you be the spinner of the story,
The teller and the tale.
May divine inspiration,
Never fail.
So glad you could make it,
To share in a song.
May the mighty magic river,
Always carry you along.
May all the gods that ever were or will be
Shower blessings over you.
May you know the light of love
Through and through.
Through the days of your dreaming.
Once upon a time and a place.
May true love and meaning,
Be the music that you face.
And when you satisfy your longing to be whole,
May life itself be your best friend.
May the singing of your soul,
Never end.
So glad you’re alive.
So good that you’re here.
May you live long and well,
In freedom from fear.
May your happy heart be dancing down a rainbow,
Or swinging on a star.
As in time,
You become who you are.

Playing synthesizer like an amazingly fun new toy, all the features of which he can't wait to explore, Devours sings, in a nice tenor, witty songs as self-lacerating as Morrissey's, without the crappy politics. voxpoptart
